Catalyst 9300 PoE - 16.12.2 problem

Hi guys.

This is just an information about an undocumented bug in Gibraltar 16.12.2. I installed this IOS although not recommended on mu Catalyst 9300-24P and 9300-48P, having each 2x 715W PSUs. Everything was stable, operations perfect. Then we started to install 3802i APs which draw 30W PoE+ per ports.

We noticed that a lot of APs didn't come up and in show power inline command we saw lots of ports in powe-deny state. I was expecting that 2x 715W will provide at least 600-800W per switch unit. But they provided just roughly 450W. I was trying everything documented, but no luck.

Then I decided to downgrade to 16.9.4 goden image (as of 16th January 2020) and after reboot we got provided 720W which made all of our AP come ap and operational.

So do not install 16.12.2 if you wanna use PoE havily. And CISCO, please document this as a bug.

Thanx
