Catalysts Express 520 unable to log in

I have a Cisco WS-CE520-8PC-K9 that goes through initial setup just fine all the way until the SYS LED is solid green but as soon as I connect it to my router with any of the 8 ports the AMBER led is solid and I can't log into the switch in any way. Any assistance?

Did you definitely try waiting more than 30s after it went amber?

It sounds to me that a spanning tree protocol is blocking the port due to bpdu guard feature.

Is the switchport mode set to trunk? I think by default most of the smartport roles will enable the bpduguard feature on access ports
