CCNP Switch Lab 4-2 Question relating to Spanning Tree

Hello, I am working on the lab 4-2 in Cisco's offical CCNP Switch lab book. Here is a pdf version including the topology I found online: http://academy.cs.rpi.edu/files/labs/SWITCH/CCNPv6_SWITCH_Lab4-2_Inter-VLAN_Routing_CEF_Student_Form.pdf

I have completed the lab but I am playing around trying to capture VLAN tags and I ran into this issue. When the Fa0/7 & 8 interfaces on ALS1 go down data can no longer traverse beyond ALS1 and I believe it's due to Spanning Tree. When I do a "show spanning-tree interface port-channel 1" It states that the ports are still in a forwarding state. When I do a "show spanning-tree interface port-channel 2" I receive, "no spanning tree info available for Port-channel2". I thought when a link like port-channel 1 goes down spanning tree is suppose to forward information on the next route it knows?

Thanks for any help!  -Mark
