Why would you change the native vlan?

I heard that you change it to free up trunk header overhead.

How would that apply to having 20 different vlans.

Which vlan would I make the native vlan?

Actually native vlan is configured to pass all untaged traffic which decreases the overhead on trunk links and also decreases the overhead of the switches to find which vlan the packet belongs.

Hi Noobie,

You can only have one native vlan per trunk. So if you have a trunk link which carrys 20 vlans out of thise 20 vlans only one can be configured as native vlans.

Bydefault vlan 1 is set as a native vlan but it depends on your network requirement which vlan you want to pass on trunk as untagged.
