Choosing user switch

Hi,

I always have been wondered how we have to choose what type of user switch based on company.

I have seen some company using 3750 and other one using 2960 or 3850.

What do we have to see in order to choose proper user switch based on company environment?

Not only just for user switch but how do we also have to choose Internet router or backbone switch etc..

2960 has fastethernet (100m) and others have gigabitehterent (1g).

When should I use 2960 that has fastehternet  interfaces or 3850 that has gig ports after looking what?
