Hi,

After 6-8 months, i tried booting my 2501, however its going to Router(boot)> mode.

Kindly help,

Hi,

You uneed to load the IOS image into your flash, either via TFTP server or Xmodem.

Those messages indicate the problem:

No files in System flash

[0 bytes used, 8388608 available, 8388608 total]

IOS (tm) 3000 Bootstrap Software (IGS-BOOT-R), Version 11.0(10c), RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

System restarted by power-on

Hi,

In this mode (Router(boot)> you can connect a PC to the Ethernrt0 interface (which I see is already up) and assign an IP address to it. Then use TFTP to transfer a new IOS to the router. The 2500 series is very very old, .Remember, the E0 interface is only 10Mbps.

Hello;

I think Reza's reply was a bit misleading. Yes, you need to load an IOS to your router. But Reza said

"you can connect a PC to the Ethernrt0 interface (which I see is already up) and assign an IP address to it.". Yes, and no. You'll have to connect via console cable to configure the device with an IP address, such as E0..give it ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0

Then, give your PC an IP address of 192.168.1.2 255.255.255.0, Default Gateway 192.168.1.1.

THEN, you connect your PC to the E0 port with an ethernet cable, and use TFTP to upload your IOS from your PC to the router.

Just wanted to clarify a bit

hi Sylvester,

The 2501 comes with one Ethernet interface, but it is not natively an RJ-45 interface. The interface natively is a AUI interface. You need a converter to convert the interface from AUI to RJ-45. Remember, I said that 2500 series is very very old. So, if you don't have converter, you can't connect to the Ethernet interface.

No, It connects to AUI (Ethernet) port.

If you look at the back of the router you see 2 serial interfaces and one AUI. You connect the converter to the AUI interface. Than the other side facing you is RJ-45.
