Dear Friends,
I have one C2801 Router with IOS 12.4(23), it has 2 onboard WAN ports, and 4 module slots
We need 6 more WAN ports, for this we are planning to install 3 x HWIC-2FE Modules.
But CISCO's official website says, Maximum Number of 2 Port HWICs allowed for the chassis C2891 is only 1
My question is can we add 3 x HWIC-2FE modules to the chassis?
Does it require any kind of license?
Thanks

Hi
that's correct only 1 is allowed on a 2801 you need a more powerful router to support what your trying to do , its not a license issue is what the actual hardware is able to process , 1 card is the limit
That's a very old ios your running too
My question is can we add 3 x HWIC-2FE modules to the chassis?
no you can physically add them but them actually running and doing anything no as the 2800 would be maxed out in hardware

Thank you folks for the reply,
The budget doesn't allow us to go for a powerful router,
All we can purchase is C2811, as the specs says, it supports 4xHWIC modules, unlike C2801 which supports only 2xHWICs
The question is, if we purchase the C2811 chassis, will it support 3xHWICs as on web-page
Table 1. Platform Support says, Maximum Number of 2 Port HWICs for C2811 = 1
That is confusing, please advise either it require some LICENSE to activate all 4 HWICs, or IOS upgrade, as available IOS is
(C2800NM-ADVENTERPRISEK9-M), Version 12.4(22)YB2
Thanks
Regards
