Cisco 2821 console username issue.

Why does a device prompt for a username when we try to access it via console.

I have 2821 cisco router which has a minimal configuration(see the attachment)

when i try to access the router via console it prompts for a username which im not aware and i believe i havent set it.

accessing it via console is the only option (i.e remotely via terminal server)

Hi Rajesh,

In the console line you have specified the following command "login authentication no-tacacs" in the console line configuration. So you have several options to make this work:

1. Remove the "login authentication" and "aaa new-model" commands.

or

2. Define the "no-tacacs" authentication list with the command  "aaa authentication login" and specify to use the line settings or local usernames.

or

3. Use a username that you have defined to authenticate: boa-icbc-rtr2, icbc-boa-rtr2, etc.
