cisco 2911 hwic port issue

Dear All,

We have cisco 2911 /k9 router, recently i purchased a hwic 2 t card and after installing it

We have observed that while we switch off the network device attached to serial 0/0, port still remain up. We have tried with switching off the router and again switching it on. But result remains the same.

Serial port still remain up.

Moreover, we have tried to shut down that particular serial port manually by logging on to router. But we have observed that by doing that, the other port (serial 0/1) attached to that particular 2t card also shut down.

So can anyone suggest me how to resolve this issue and troubleshooting steps.....

What is the encapsulation, PPP or HDLC?

What happens if you change the encapsulation type?

Hi Reza ,

we use encapsulation PPP.

I think the below mention detail give you more Idea to know the problem....

1.  

    We have 2 leased line connections. One from BSNL for which is connected serial port as PRIMARY and another one is Aircel link connected on Ethernet port as Redundant.

2.       Recently everything is working fine on Primary link but during the failover test we noticed that When primary link goes down the traffic won’t route through secondary link(Ethernet)

3.       As we power off the CSU/DSU device of primary link, the link status of serial on router is showing UP.

4.       Once we shut the serial port (PRIMARY) manually by logging in to router, Ethernet port (Secondary) starts working. But the problem is that the other serial link which is terminated on the same 2t card also gets disconnected.

As per idle failover scenario when my primary goes down the secondary will automatic take care of data traffic, but here we need to manually shut down the port of primary link.

When you turn off the CSU/DSU, the interface should go down.  It seems as your HWIC is malfunctioning.  I know you have a second T1 on the same card, but is there a way for you to have an outage window and reseat the it?  If not, then the only thing I can think of is that the HWIC needs to be replaced
