Dear All,
I am using cisco 2951 for extra added firewall security (SSL VPN) in existing design placed after MX480. Now, that there are different modules in it as below, can anybody tell me the function of each module in short please.
1. Service modules.
2. EHWIC - Enhanced High speed WAN interface.
3. ISM - internal service module.
4. PVDM3 - Packet voice DSP module.
5. compact flash.
6. USB 2.0 ports.
Now, that I am using this system 2951 for only high security (SSL VPN) which modules should I prefer according to their specifications before purchasing them.
FYI - I am NOT using any WAN connection , it is going to be placed in existing syste after Juniper MX480.
Hope I made everything clear.

All of these are slots used for adding a new functionality to the router. Some examples:
- Switch modules, 3DES/AES/SUITE-B VPN Encryption module, Services Ready Engine
- xDSL, Serial, Voice Interface Cards (VIC), switch (less ports than a service module switch), WWAN (3G, LTE) modules
- Services Ready Engine (less performance than the services module SRE)
- PVDMs modules are used to have more voice channels for Voice/UC applications
- CF is used to store IOS, configurations, etc.
- Console port, secure token capabilities and storage
For SSL VPN, I'd recommend the ISM-VPN-29 (3DES/AES/SUITE-B VPN Encryption) ISM module.
