cisco 2960-xr POE not providing power for my non-cisco IP Phone

Hello all,

Recently there is a problem on one of the ports on my c2960XR switch. The port was plugged with an IP Phone. Suddenly from last week, it stopped working. I found out that the cable is fine. Tried to plug in the external power supply then it works. I tested with a POE testing. In the far end as well as in front of the switch with this tester, it doesn't show the port provides any POE.

I tested with another port on the same switch, it works fine. It means the POE tester shows OK. The IP phone patched to this port, it also works running.

Now I have a testing IP Phone connected to this port (gi1/0/19) directly to the switch. It is off. I checked some statistics on the switch. It doesn't show any clear fault. Any idea?

Whatever is connected to that port is dead.  The last time the switch saw any traffic coming out of the downstream client was almost 3 years ago.

Must've caught COVID and did not survive.

Good spot. Nah... That's not the case. The port itself is working fine on the network connections. I plugged in the laptop to that port and it works fine. So this is port with POE is not functioning.

Cheers,

Timothy

is the issue only with gi 1/0/19? can you try connecting to another port - is the phone work? or are none of the ports not getting PoE?

as @Leo Laohoo  was suggesting since it was long uptime of the switch, have you get a chance to cold boot and test it.

Yes. It could be a course of actions to do. I noticed that in the same switch,

For the ports 1-12 it works fine, it should be fine. In port 4, we have an AP running.

From the ports 13-24, which is where I experienced now, are having problems.I tried port 19 and 23, no POE at all.

For the ports 25-36, it should work fine. In port 36, we got another AP running.

For the ports 37-48, we tested but not working as well.

It looks like the problem happened on different module.

Cheers,

Timothy

Plug the phone to a different port on the switch and do a TDR:

  1. Command:  test cable tdr interface <PORT>
  2. Wait for about 5 to 7 seconds.
  3. Command:  sh cable tdr interface <PORT>
  4. Post the complete output to #3.

Hi Leo,

This port works fine. Same cable, same IP Phone.

asw02#show cable tdr int gi4/0/29

Pair B 34 +/- 10 meters Pair A Normal
Pair C 34 +/- 10 meters Pair D Normal

This port doesn't work. Same cable, same IP Phone.

Cold reboot switch 1.

After the reboot, if the problem persist, post the complete output to the command "sh post".

Will arrange a schedule to cold reboot this but not at the near future I can see. Need to get approval. Cheers,
