Dear All,

As cisco 2960-XR router has IP-Lite image, which also  supports routing. Does it also supports communication between two different Vlans without the requirement of separate router ? Please let me know. Waiting for your response. Thank you.

Yes, a 2960-XR switch will route between vlans, being a layer 3 switch.

However ip routing is disabled by default and would need to be enabled.

The following link lists the features of a Cisco 2960-XR switch.

A Cisco 2960-XR switch does support layer 3 dynamic routing (rip1, ospf2).

Hope this helps,

if so, please rate.

Hi Cehill,

Yes, it does support basic routing with IP-Lite Image and we call it as Layer-3 switch. But cannot find any article from cisco which mention it supports Inter-vlan routing. Does it support Inter-vlan routing without the requirement of separate router?

If it supports routing then it should support routing between vlans.

See this link -

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst2960xr/software/15-0_2_EX1/routing/configuration_guide/b_rt_152ex1_2960-xr_cg/b_rt_152ex1_2960-xr_cg_chapter_011.html

where it specifies which interface types can be used for routing and note it includes SVIs.

According to the configuration guide, you can assign an ip address to an SVI, so yes you should be able to route between vlans.
