Cisco 3560x poe+ & 1252 wap power issue

Hi all,

I have a ws-cisco 3560x-48p (running Version 12.2(53)SE2, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc3) trying to use poe+ to power a cisco AIR-AP1252AG-N-K9

(running Version 12.4(21a)JY, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1))

The wap is showing a combination of green, blue and red lights indicating it is running in low power mode.

I ssh into the wap and running show cont dot11Radio 1 displays:

"Radio is running in lower power mode due to inline power (15.4 W)
Maximum transmit power will be affected
Allowed data rates and antennas will be affected"

I have tried power static max 30000 on the cisco switch however it is still saying its running on inline power 15.4.

Is it possible to run this wap from the cisco switch in poe+ or will I have to use the power injector (which works fine)

Any ideas? We are using autonomous ap's with no WLC. Cdp has been turned off the waps (It has been disabled and I cant enable it as I dont have the enable password) Thanks.

show power inline displays:

Interface Admin  Oper       Power   Device              Class Max
                            (Watts)

Gi0/3     static on         30.0    Ieee PD             3     30.0

I've got 1252 connected to 3560E.  I've enabled PoE up to 20.0w and they are working fine.

I think you need to upgrade the IOS to fix this.

Hi all,

Can anyone please confirm with a more detailed answer. Will upgrading the firmware to the latest fix this issue? I thought I was running the latest.
Thanks

power inline port maximum 20000

Cisco IOS Software, C3560E Software (C3560E-UNIVERSALK9-M), Version 12.2(55)SE

That's my setup.

I have tried the same command, same problem.

Can you tell me the exact reason, e.g is there a difference between IOS versions? I read the release notes but not much mentioned regarding poe issues.

You are running Version 12.2(55)SE and I'm using 12.2(53)SE2

I tried your command, appears to be missing?

libcorecisco1(config-if)#power inline port maximum ?
% Unrecognized command
libcorecisco1(config-if)#power inline port maximum 20000
                                           ^
% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.

What is the problem?

libcorecisco1(config-if)#power inline ?
auto         Automatically detect and power inline devices
consumption  Configure the inline device consumption
  never        Never apply inline power
police       Police the power drawn on the port
  port         Configure Port Power Level
static       High priority inline power interface

libcorecisco1(config-if)#power inline port ?
priority  set power priority of the port

Ok then.  Try the command "power inline auto max ".

Did this work?

After your command:

Gi0/3     auto   on         15.4    Ieee PD             3     20.0

It is still not providing the full 20 watt for this 1252 wap.

CDP is off on the wap, this could be the reason why its not detecting what kind of wap this is and what power to provide?

Even with the static max command, I would have thought it would provide 20w, however in my case its running in low power mode.

Any more ideas?

Thanks
