Cisco 3850 Stack + IOS upgradepath

Hi,

I've a 3850 stack I need to upgrade-

Is it possible to upgrade directly from 03.06.04.E to say 16.09.06 or 16.09.08?

Yes, it is possible to upgrade directly, however, take note of the following "gotchas": 

1. Cisco Smart License (CSL) starts with 16.9.X. 
2. Upgrading from 3.X.X to 16.X.X means a mandatory ROMMON upgrade.  This will take around 22 minutes to complete.  
3. Read the Release Notes very carefully.  
4. Important:  Upgrade using Install Mode.
