I have a 4507 Switch that has a bad supervisor. I have a replacement supervisor and installed it but because of IOS mis-match it does not show up as a standby to the active supervisor.
When i tried to sync the IOS using this command: copy bootflash:cat4500-ipbasek9-mz.122-40.SG.bin slavebootflash: I get an error of: %Error opening slavebootflash:cat4500-ipbasek9-mz.122-40.SG.bin (Error Sending Request).
With a console cable plugged into the replacement Supervisor Engine, this is all I get at the console:
The communication with the active supervisor cannot be established.
Possible reasons:
-Active sup. not completely initialized.
-Faulty active supervisor.
-Error on the communication channel.
Ipc packets sent so far: 2100 (1 packet/sec).
And this message repeats every few minutes and the packet count increases by 300..
It also does not respond to any keystrokes.
I know that is an older IOS version but taking the switch down to upgrade isn't an option right now.
I really need to get the new Supervisor up and going.
Thanks in advance for any assistance

if you have a compact flash (you can even remove it from the old sup, if its removable) and use it in disk0 slot and try to boot the right image from there?

Rebooting the switch fixed the problem.
