Hi,
I am looking for information on recommended logging on cat 6509-e switches. There are so many options available so I am looking for some recommendations.
The other thing I am looking for is to what type of log messages are generated when something fails on 6500. For example, what would be the log message when a SUP card or a line card fails. Also what should be the best way to find a log messagae for a BGP neighbor failure?
I am looking specifically for log messages here.
Thanks

Hi,
You can log messages to the buffer (default), syslog server or other applications like Splunk. Splunk is very powerful but not cheap.
http://www.splunk.com/
As for what type of messages are being logged, the default is usually 7 which means all messages at all levels are being logged.
Also have a look at this link for more info:

Hi Reza, thanks , I am aware of syslog servers. What kind of log message goes to the buffer when a module fails or when OSPF or BGP neighbor goes down. I am looking for specific code or word that a script can pick in case of level 0 or 1 messages.
