Cisco 6504 vss - Directory entries are corrupted - please format the disk

Hello

I came upon this error message to today whilst trying to copy new software to 6504 vss chassis with vs-sup2t-10g's

"Directory entries are corrupted - please format the disk"

Now why would in this case the file system of both the flash bootdisk and slavebootdisk report such warring and not allow me to copy anything to it? -  What i mean is under what circumstances would i need to file system check (fsck) to flash of these sups so to be able to proceed with the install of any file?

I think this warring given out by cisco is un-informative and very mis-leading as i didnt need to format anything?

Hi Paul,

Have you tried running this command for possible bad sectors?

fsck bootdisk

It may be disruptive.

Hello Resa

Cheers for the responce - FYI yes I did  run fsck however the error command before I ran it is very confusing hence the post

file system check (fsck) isn’t a format  so why would cisco state a format is required when it isn’t?

And what is vexing me the most is why would such a file system check be required on a new piece of hardware or I am missing something to the fact this is a primary requirement that needs to be performed prior to a successful rollout of a dual 6500 chassis?

Come on Paul, there are lots of messages in IOS that don't make sense :)

No, I have never seen that before with any device.  That should not be the case.

Hello

lol - I guess I asked for that ! -

your right  maybe I am being too optimistic on a valid reason to why cisco does this so I would t be so annoyed on the time I lost today trying to figure this one out -
