Cisco 7206 Fa int - no auto duplex support?

I'm stuck... I have a Cisco 7206 (non VXR w/ NPE225) and a Comcast SMC business cable modem... I'm using the 7206 for NAT and GRE tunnels. (In lan testing, with a 'virtual' cable modem link all was great, then I plug in the real thing and I'm having duplex issues....)  The issue is I want the cable modem to connect to the 7206, but the Cisco side only supports duplex half OR full, NO AUTO duplex or speed settings, no negotiate, etc.  The SMC is supposed to support manual duplex/speed settings --- but when left auto it goes to 100/half, and when set 100/full manually, I get no link.  I have yet to test the 100/full connecting to another switch, etc.  I so suspect the 7200 is the core issue  One possible solution is getting a 'desktop switch' and connecting the two together via that - some managed switch where I can set 100/full on the cisco side and let auto on the CM side.  Any suggestions there?  (cheap, managed, 100M is fine)

Anyway, the real question here is ... what happened to the FastE RJ45 duplex support on the 7200 series?  Any workarounds, upgrades (new PA) to get it to work??  IOS revisions that DO support it?

None of the ports support it, here's my info:

ER02#sh diag | i FE
        FRU Part Number     C7200-IO-FE-MII/RJ
        FRU Part Number     PA-2FEISL-TX=
        FRU Part Number     PA-2FEISL-TX=
ER02#
ER02#sh ver | i bin
System image file is "disk0:c7200-advipservicesk9-mz.124-24.T2.bin"

All interfaces:

ER02(config-if)#duplex ?
  full  Force full duplex operation
  half  Force half-duplex operation

TIA,

Shawn

Hi Shawn

Can you try using the "negotiation auto" command instead of individual speed/duplex settings ? This should make it work..

this is what i saw in CCO:

"The negotiation command is applicable to the Gigabit Ethernet interface of the Cisco 7200-I/O-GE+E and interfaces on the 2-port 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet SPA that are using fiber media. The negotiation auto command is used instead of the duplex and speed commands (which are used on Ethernet and Fast Ethernet interfaces, and interfaces on the 2-port 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet SPA that are using RJ-45 media) to automatically configure the duplex and speed settings of the interfaces."

Hope this helps.. all the best..

Raj

Negative.

Possibly GigE cards would support, but they are expensive and overkill for my application.

I'm wondering if it's an IOS thing, or what my other options are.  Tomorrow I'm going to try a couple hacks, but I really want a direct CM->router connection ideally.  I have a second CM connected to a 3700 with auto capabilities, working fine.
