Hi,
We received a replacement supervisor and upgraded the line cards software without any issues. We notice the firmware versions are different the supervisors devices. The replacement supervisor unit has an higher firmware version on it then the active unit. If I run the Install autograde on the active unit will it upgrade to the higher firmware version? Any direction would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

hello G, and yes running install autoupgrade on the active supervisor will initiate a firmware upgrade (a.k.a. fpga or rommon upgrade) on the line cards or standby supervisor if their firmware version is lower than what’s on the active. In ur case, since the replacement (standby) supervisor has a higher firmware version, the install autoupgrade command will not upgrade the active unit—it only works from the active to the standby, not the other way around. So to align firmware versions, u need to: Make the supervisor with the higher firmware active (if supported) and then run install autoupgrade to push the newer firmware to the other supervisor or line cards.
if u want, let me know what platform/chassis you're working with and I can give u more specific guidance.
hope it helps G

also from the official 9400 docs u'll find this: "The install autoupgrade command is used to upgrade the firmware of the line cards and the standby supervisor to match the active supervisor’s version."

No.
The command is entered in the Master/Active supervisor card, yes? This means the Master supervisor card is telling the new or secondary card to upgrade/downgrade to the same version level as the Master/Active supervisor card. This scenario is only valid if the Master/Active supervisor card is in Install Mode.
