Cisco ASR920 for Layer 2

I am really interested in the.. 

• Cisco Systems ASR-920-24SZ-M ASR920 Series 24GE Fiber and 4-10GE Mod

I would be using it for large events with about 5 to 10k active clients. I already have a router that i like and im comfortable with and it is really built very well. But I have been using a mikrotik running SwitchOS and it just feels really limited. And Im still using cisco 2960s for edge switches. I would be running fiber to all of the switches and would like them all to home run to a strong core switch. I know that the ASR is a router but ive heard that it is also cable for layer 2. I was hoping to get some feed back from the community on this.

Also I come from only really doing Cisco IOS CLI. I know the asr has a different IOS i was wondering how steep the learning curve would be.
