Cisco C9600 High Availability Configuration

We are configuring 2 Cisco C9600 for high availability. We are looking for the stackwise-virtual method. But the commands for stackwise-virtual is not available. I believe because we are using the supervisor 2 engine for the switches which i see in the documents that this is the restriction.

We have the network advantage licenses and dna-advantage addon. Both are running in same version Cisco IOS XE Software, Version 17.08.01.

Is there other way or method how to configure the 2 C9600 for High Availability?

Can we upgrade from 17.8.1 direct to 17.10.x?

Yes, with catalyst, you can go directly to 17.10.x

Hi

I am using Cisco IOS XE Software, Version 17.11.01, with stackwise virtual. You need network-advantage (C9600-NW-A) licenses

Only Quad Supervisor 2 Modules are not supported, It supports only single Supervisor 2 Module per chassis

Hi Shambhu,

you mentioned that quad supervisor 2 is not supported in stackwise virtual. Both C9600r have 2 supervisor engine. Do we need to disable one for both or remove?

Hello Acevirgil,

I understand that you have a question on quad-sup setup for C9600X switches -SUP2(next generation).

Kindly that quad setup is not yet supported on C9600x-Sup2, the feature is on the future plan support, and we should expect a new release in the 17. Train to include the support for this setup in the future.

You can run stack-wise  virtual with single sup in each chassis. Quad setup is supported on C9600X with only SUP-1.

For now , you have no other option but to wait until Cisco engineering and developers support the feature on any future release, for your convenience please refer to the link below – Platform Benefits

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/switches/catalyst-9600-series-switches/nb-06-cat9600-ser-sup-eng-data-sheet-cte-en.html

Thanks.

Quad Sup2 is not supported.

Remove or un-seat the line cards so as not to cause any issues.

Thanks Reza for the answers. I will do the software update and give you feedback.

Do not upgrade to 17.10.1 or 17.11.1.

Go straight to 17.12.3 instead.

IMPORTANT:  Make sure to read the 17.12.X Release Notes very thoroughly, particularly the Unsupported Features: Cisco Catalyst 9600 Series Supervisor 2 Module section.

And if planning to use ISSU, be aware of the following:

CSCwc54402:  Non-disruptive ISSU upgrade fails if FPGA upgrade is needed
