Cisco CAT6500 reload after "default interface Gigabit m/p" command

We have a strange issue with catalyst 6500 access switches.

Some switches wil be reloading after a "default interface gigabitEthernet M/P" command

(M -> Module; P -> Port)

Is this a known issue and what is a solution (and yes we know, not do not use the "default interface command")

Any crashinfo* files on bootflash: and sup-bootdisk:?  Maybe those contain more info around the moment the crash occured...

Please post show version and show log.

What is the reload reason displayed by "show version" ("System returned to ROM by...")?  Also, are there any crashinfo file(s) generated on the SUP's bootdisk / bootflash?

The crash may not be necessarily caused by running the "default interface" command, but could be related to a specific piece of interface config that gets wiped out in the process, and that could be affecting other ports as well (port groups on cat6k line cards often have to share the same bits of config, such as QoS and vlan mapping)...

System returned to ROM by power on (SP by error - an unknown failure, PC 0x417BCEE8)
System restarted at 14:17:24 CEST Tue Aug 30 2016
System image file is "sup-bootdisk:s3223-ipservicesk9_wan-mz.122-33.SXI14.bin"
Last reload reason: power-on
