Cisco Catalyst 2960X-24PS-L Sleep Mode

I have a Cisco Catalyst 2960X-24PS-L that went offline this morning. The only light that was on was the SYST LED and it was blinking amber. According to cisco documentation, this means the switch was in sleep mode but I can't find further information about sleep mode.

 https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst2960x/hardware/installation/guide/b_c2960x_hig/b_c2960x_hig_chapter_01.html

We rebooted it to bring it up. Why did it go to sleep and how do I prevent this? Thanks!

Did you capture the logs before rebooting the switch? There may be info that is useful for troubleshooting the issue.

HTH

Hi,

The logs are still there after the reboot. Reboot occurred at 07:41. I had checked them already and don't see anything that helps.

Post the complete output to the following commands:

  1. sh version
  2. dir
  3. sh log on uptime detail

It was rebooted again 2 days ago and I'm asking around to see if anyone did that.

IOS software is an "interim" EX version.  I have no idea which could be worst.

I would recommend that you upload a newer firmware into the switch but DO NOT RELOAD THE SWITCH.

Let the switch load the new IOS by itself and then we'll see what happens after.
