Cisco Catalyst switch support Multi-chassis EtherChannel Features

Tang-Suan Tan

Hi all :

I came across this Multichassis EtherChannel Features when read about information from Cisco Smart Business Architecture.

After checking further, knowing that Cataly  stwitch 6500 supports this feature.

May anybody helps to provide information that beside Catalyst 6500, is there any other model of Catalyst switch can support this feature?

I have tried to search in Cisco Feature Web http://tools.cisco.com/ITDIT/CFN/jsp/by-feature.jsp but could not see the exact information that I want.

Can anybody help on this? Many thanks!

Best regards,

Tan Tang Suan

The ability to have an etherchannel spread across multiple switches is as far as i know supported by 3 switches -

1) 3750 switches support cross stack etherchannel where you ahe a stack of 3750 switches and you can spread the etherchannel aross multiple switches within the stack

2) 6500 switches using VSS. Note that you must be running VSS which requires supervisors that support VSS.

3) Nexus switches which support vPC (virtual port channels)

*** Edit - VSS support is scheduled for the 4500 either the end of this year of first quarter next year and so i expect this would support multi-chassis etherchannel as well.
