In a nutshell, when I try to append the pipe character (|)  to a command in Packet Tracer on a 2960 switch, I get "% Invalid input detected at '^' marker." at the pipe character. For example:

show running-configuration | begin line vty

Help!

Sounds like a bug in packet tracer which is known to be very buggy .

I have the latest version and luckily - an actual switch :)

It's just much more comfortable using PT instead, oh well...

Packet tracer may not have all IOS capabilities as an actual device. I don't  use it these days, but you may check for an updated version if you have one.
