Cisco IE 1000 Switch

Hello,

I have another question about the Cisco IE 1000 switch. Configuration options on the switch is extremely minimal. I have RSTP currently configured on the switch, but I am unable to set roles for my two uplinks. I need to set one of them as a root port and the other as alternate. I've tried setting the port priority and no luck. Any suggestions?

where this connected ? uplink to other switch ?

these are industrial switches may have limited featuires, why not setup other side of the switch to gain control ?

is this viable on your setup ?

Due to the sensitivity of the existing network I am unable to modify or make any changes to it. This is just a stopgap solution until I can fully upgrade the network. The switch should converge and fall inline with the current RSTP configuration, but it's not. The two uplinks on the 1000 series switch are* connected to two switches.

Do you any small network diagram or tell us what switches other side, what STP  priority, i would advise uplink switch to be root rather downlink switch for the vlan, so root bridge always mainiained on the uplink switch.

The current network is VERY old. The switches I have the Cisco switch connected to are Alcatel Lucent Omniswitches. 802.1w is enabled on them and I can see the state of each port (i.e., root, designated, alternate, blocking). The Cisco IE-1000 does not allow me to manually configure a root port nor does it seem to automatically select a root port based on the Alcatel RSTP config.

That is the standard behavior of STP right ? if you have 2 Trunk connected, (again we are just assuming based on the information) we are still not clear and been asked to give small network diagram ( does not matter how old the network) if you like to services run as expected, you should some diagram in place. so i will start with small network diagram rather imagination here.

Alcatel Lucent Omniswitches. act as uplink switch and they are root bridge for all vlan, that should be ok.

as per the document, IE switches support Etherchannel  (if other side support, you can try that - if you can not make any changes) that is the only option you have as the trunk, one go blocking other will stay as active.

Here's a quick diagram of the network. The two uplinks are configured as a trunk to pass 802.1q traffic since we are running multiple VLANs. The Alcatel network is a full mesh topology and the Cisco switch is only connected to two of the switches. I need to manually configure the Cisco switch to select a root port since I am not allowed to change the configuration on the Alcatel network at this current time, but the switch appears to be limited in terms of configuration options.

Sure that is the way move forward.

i have not much hands on on IE1000, so you need to test 1 or 2 vlan see how the behaviour and move foward.

Thank you balaji.bandi! I actually reviewed this link already but was unable to find any answers, which is why I posted to the community, hoping someone could assist me. I'm just going to chalk it up to: it's not possible with this current model, and look for a more robust switch that can do what I need it to.

I do have one more question, maybe you can help or point me in the right direction. I work with industrial switches and am looking to purchase a Cisco IE-9300 switch for another project. Do you know if this switch supports mLACP?

check this thread : as per the information it has config : (show run - post here check what commands you have spanning tree on the device)

Do you know if this switch supports mLACP?

as per your diagram, personally i do not believe you can achieve LACP port-channel, i think only option you have trunk here.

This switch is NOT for the Alcatel network, this is for a different project. Do you know if the Cisco IE-9300 supports mLACP?

oh. this is confusing here, if that is not what is that diagram you povided, or we misunderstanding the requirement here.

Cisco IE-9300 supports mLACP?

These are new models of industrial in the same model like Cat 9300, need to check the documentation.

are you aware where the mLACP used or use case :

just refer to get an idea :

The question about the Cisco IE-9300 switch was a seperate question, completely unrelated to the issue. I figured I'd ask you instead of opening a new thread.

as per i know they are same as Cat 9300 switches as per i know, but meant to deploy in idustrial switches for ruggedness.
