hi every body!
i just want to know if MSFC is used by fixed configuration switches ?or by modular switches only?

It is used only by Modular Switches..
Basically it is part of Supervisor Engine.
Only Supervisor Engines which are installed in Catalyst 6000, Caatlyst 6500 , Cisco 7600 Router has MSFC.

Yes, it does control the communication to some extent, again depends on the SUP you are using.
Yes, it does like motherboard of PC alongwith other components like Policy FEature Card ( PFC ) , Switch Fabric , and all modules.

thanks for your reply Satish! could you please tell me what function supervisor engine performs?
i find the following:
1)supervisors offer layer 2 processing and layer 3 and higer forwading using MSFC.
My question does it (supervisor)also control the communication between different modules?
Does this supervisor do what a cpu does on motherboard in Personal computer?
