Cisco Nexus 7000 Series Switches

Hi All,

I am re-designning our data center and replacing most of the HP switch to Cisco product.

I have checked the 6500 series and its matched with our requirements, however I have read about the Cisco Nexus 7000 Series Switches and it might give us some future proof as well.

Could someone let me know the Nexus can do on the following function or not?:-

- Require L3 switching (supervisor 2 of PFC + MSFC), availble slot?

- Can I add the IDS feature card to the cassis, in 6500 series I'm thinking of add this card on: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/modules/ps2706/products_data_sheet09186a00801e55dd.html

- Is this model support, FWSM, CSM and VPN concentrator?

Thanks!

The Nexus 7000 and the 6500 are quite different switches. If you want to use service modules such as the FWSM and CSM etc.. then you need a 6500 not a Nexus.

The 7000 can indeed do L3 routing/switching although it uses it's own supervisors ie. they are not in common with the 6500 as far as i know.
