Cisco router 3620 boot issues

I received cisco router 3620 from a friend. I booted and got to the # sign mode. After a few minutes while checking the config. file, I noticed a sudden change on the console screen

"System Bootstrap, version 11.1(19)AA, EARLY DEPLOYMENT RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)" and when press enter it just keeps coming so all I have on the console is now series of the above message over and over. Can someone help me ? Anyone out there who has experienced this before ? Thanks so much for your help.

Try power cycling the device. If no luck get a recent stable IOS and upload it. This can be done with a PC running tftp32. Then from ROMMON download the IOS via TFTP. For example:

     rommon 16 > IP_ADDRESS=171.68.171.0      rommon 17 > IP_SUBNET_MASK=255.255.254.0      rommon 18 > DEFAULT_GATEWAY=171.68.170.3      rommon 19 > TFTP_SERVER=171.69.1.129      rommon 20 > TFTP_FILE=c2600-is-mz.113-2.0.3.Q      rommon 21 > tftpdnld

Rob,

Thank you. I tried last night and I could not get into the rommon mode. I hit the "break and control" key and got the below error

*** CPU Out-of-range Interrupt ***

Access address high = 0xa, low = 0x66887f80

PC = 0xbfc09f94, Cause = 0x4000, Status Reg = 0x3041f003

Failure detected during ROMMON start-up tests. Restart ROMMON.

I tried so many times and could not get into the rommon mode. Does the 3620 function with PCMCIA card ? I noticed a slot in front but it is empty. Thanks.

You need to have a Smartnet contract and CCO account to download a new IOS for the 3600 series.  Then you most likely have to use Xmodem to loaded it into your device.

Here the instructions on how to load it into the 3600 series

Yes, infact the 3620 takes one of thoes PCMCI card. (I have one) I think the bigger issue is that you don't get passed the boot room.

Try just pressing the "pause" key during the boot.

Reza,

I tried many times pressing the "pause" and nothing, can't get into rommon mode. What this could be ? The funny thing it was working at the # mode and then suddenly the bootstrap message keeps appearing. Any help to recover will be appreciated. Thanks.
