Cisco Sup-720 Boot question

interwebmedia
Level 1
Level 1

Hello,

In the configuration, we had:

boot system flash bootflash:

boot system flash disk0:

Our IOS is in the disk0 compact flash in the sup-720

Now we changed it to only:

boot system flash disk0:

and it goes into ROMMON when reloaded the switch.

But then again when both configs were in, we get an error that bootflash does not work or something like that...here it is:

Autoboot executing command: "boot bootflash"

Loading image, please wait ...

Invalid device specified

Booting from default device

loadprog: error - on read during ELF program load

requested 42844692 (0x28dc214) bytes, got 33520708 (0x1ff7c44)

open: failed to find and/or load the bootloader: "bootflash:s72033-ipservicesk9-

mz.122-18.SXF12.bin"

loadprog: error - on file open

boot: cannot load "bootflash"

Now the thing is that we put BACK the config how it was in the beginning when it did load the IOS just fine from disk) which is:

boot system flash bootflash:

boot system flash disk0:

and it still brings us to ROMMON ...

What should we do??

We basically have a compact flash with the IOS image on it, we need it to boot from there only..

What should we do??

Thanks

Right, i'm leaving this one to you, i'm off to get a cup of tea :-)

Do you want to delete this IOS ? Do you have another IOS on disk0 or disk1.

Before deleting think we should make sure you have another IOS somewhere.

Jon

Well, thats why I asked him TWICE to post the output of a dir all-files -- to see what hes got on here.

Cant help it if he has an aversion to posting router command outputs...may have something to do with a childhood trauma...dint want to push the issue.

Im assuming he knows enough to know he wants to delete it....then again...

Ok here it is. by the way i already deleted the sup-bootflash content... Does the rest seem FINE to you ??

Does the rest seem ok?

You're using CWPA2_version_10.10???? On a proprietary sup-microcode, no less????

What???

Im gonna have to report you to Cisco's RFSIS - Router Filesystem Investigation Squad.

OK, Im kidding....its all good.

Congrats.

Now please dont forget to rate all of mine and Jon's posts, since weve been dropping Gold nuggets on you for the last hour. :-)

Ok :) another thing, we just received this switch and in the default configuration for it when doing a SHOW RUN, we see a BUNCH of things... they are in the config by default?? Is it normal to keep them ??

Do we keep all those??

Most of these commands are configured on a switch ROB (right out of the box).

You really have to look up each command one at a time.

Is this a 6500 switch?

Redundancy mode sso means stateful switch over and it refers to the feature implemented when dual Supervisor modules are inserted in your chassis.

Yes it is a 6509 with a SUP-720 ...

No dual supervisors are in now.

So we can keep everything as it came like that?

Read this link. It elaborates on the "mls" commands.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst6500/ios/12.1E/native/configuration/guide/mls.html#wp1020746

By the way, mls refers to multi-layer switching, which is a reference to L3 switching (routing).

And yes, you can keep the mode sso command in. Without another supervisor in the chassis, it doesnt make much of a difference anyway.

Basically the above-mentioned lines means that you have to rate Jon and Victor's post otherwise one of `em will come and haunt you (after dinner, hopefully, so the effect can be dramatic or gross). He he he ...
