Cisco Switch with Q-in-Q Support

Hello,

I am looking for a switch which has at least 8 Fast Ethernet Ports, two compo and MUST support Q-in-Q. Do you any suggestion?

Note, Q-in-Q is a service provider feature, so you will be paying more to have it.

I have used QinQ on C3550 some years ago.

A Cisco 3560 should be enough

I found Catalyst 3560-8PC-S Switch which I think supports Q-in-Q for about 1000+$. Do I have to pay additional for Q-in-Q support?

Hello Emmanouil,

not specifically for QinQ, but you probably need more then a LAN base image but IP services image.

The configuration guide chapter has no notes about feature set needed and the feature is reported in the overview at the beginning of the configuration guide of C3560

You can check support of the feature on a specific IOS image using Cisco feature navigator

Thanks for the answer, I use the feautere navigator you provided but it does not show 3560 when I select Q-in-Q feature. Is there any possibility to not actually support it?

Hello Emmanouil,

the feature is supported as described in the configuration guide, also as you see in other post there is also confirmation that it is supported on some small business switches.

As I wrote in my first post I have used it on C3550 so it is not a very new feature and support on C3560 is expected.

I would say it should be supported with all feature sets as the configuration guide has no note about support of the feature (usually at the beginning there is a note telling the feature is supported only with some feature sets, in this case is missing).

I don't know why FN does not list it.  FN is usually a good tool for this kind of checks.

Yes you are right I was looking for "802.1Q Tunneling for AToM" so I was looking for wrong feature.I saw that 802.1Q-in-Q is supported in 2960 also. Just a last question, SX300 and SX500 are cisco models?I am asking because we are looking for a cheap end user switch and 1000$ are too much.

thanks for your nice rating and I see that feature is an advanced feature that combines QinQ with MPLS so it is different from plain QinQ

They are not IOS based switches and their configuration is made using a GUI.

I have no direct experience with them, but I used the Catalyst 500 express series and I didn't find it so easy to use, despite the GUI interface.

Hi Emmanouil and Giuseppe, the SX300 and SX500 series have a full supported CLI as well as a GUI. The switches are not IOS based, it is "IOS-like". Most of the commands are the same but there are some differences since it is not an IOS.

The market SKU for SX300 would be such as SG300-28p while the product SKU is such srw2024p-k9-na. The SG500 series is as they appear.

Searching on NewEgg I found a SG300-28p for less than $700.
