Yes, this is a major change you are making. You can do a lot of prep work way ahead of time.

vinothchellappakumar42298,

Are these acting as core / aggregation devices or access devices ? L2 or L3 / Can you provide any diagram of where they are now and where they want to get to with the design ?

Hi Scott,

Those devices are acting as core now , we want to bring the devices into VSS mode .

question: If we migrate the existing core devices into VSS , we will lose all the configuration ?

model:4507

sample diagram has been attached .

Hi,

When you migrate from a standalone switch to VSS, all port assignments will change. For example, port 2/5 on the first switch will become 1/2/5, and port 2/5 on the second switch will become 2/2/5. So, I recommend you make a good copy of the current config from both switches into notepad, after the migration, make the port changes in notepad and then copy and paste small portions of the config from notepad to the switch. You can also do most of the config changes ahead of time. This way, your maintenance window does not have to be as long especially if the config is pretty large.

Ok , thank you for the update .

but still the existing config like eigrp , static route , inter vlan configuration will get erase during the standalone to vss migration ?

vinothchellappakumar42298,

According to your diagram, there is no connection between the existing Core 4506-1 and 4506-2.

If this is correct, then this tells me that the customer is potentially connecting via L3 from Access to Core . Can you verify whether these are L2 or L3 connections from the Access ?

When you convert from standalone to VSS, is big change.

I have few question i always asked, becuase when the setup is working as expected, why you like to change ? do you see any challenges now, which can fix with exiting setup make tweak to make it better, rather change whole topology, until we need know to what is the big changes required for business ?

what is the reason to go VSS ?   - Cat 4506 may soon go end of life, ?  what is the design change required for now. ?

I have seen the diagram, the Core run along with out any connection to other core ? or diagram is missing here ?
