Cisco WS-C3850-12S won't connect with original Cisco SFP-H10GB-CU3M V03

Hello,

I try to connect my server (HP DL380) to my Cisco switch. In the server I use an Intel 82599 10Gigabit Dual port network card and I am connecting it to the switch using the original Cisco SFP-H10GB-CU3M V03 SFP+ cable. When I connect it the 10GB port on the switch and the server side won't come up. As far as I know I don't need to configure anything on the switch and server for the ports to come up?

Anothert hing I read online is that this type of cable (SFP+) is not supported on this type of switch (the S type). Only I can't find this on the Cisco site.

I hope someone can help me?

Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

The twinax cable is only supported on the 3850-xS switches when connected to a 10G Network Module (C3850-NM-2-10G , C3850-NM-4-10G or C3850-NM-8-10G).

cheers,

Hello Seb,

Thanks for your quick response. My information was not complete, sorry for that. I have a C3850-NM-4-1G module installed in the switch. The sfp cables are connected to that ports. I also have a gbic installed in this module and the gbic is working fine.

I hope you can help me further again.

You are trying to use a SFP+ module in a SFP port, they are not compatible. If in doubt check the compatabilty matrix for the c3850-NM-4-1G module:

...the H10GB cable is not listed as supported.

cheers,

Seb.
