clock calendar-valid

Hello

I'm looking to setup NTP on a LAN so that when the internet stratum 1 servers beome unavailable, there will be an authoritative time source on the LAN that will serve out the time to LAN clients. I'm looking to do this without the ntp master command

I setup a lab to test this (please see attached for topology and configs):

  • R1 is configured as NTP master 1 (stratum 1)
  • R2 (6509E s2t54-advipservicesk9-mz.SPA.150-1.SY1) gets its time from R2 (startum 2)
  • SW1 get its time from R2 (stratum 3)

When i break the link between R2 and R1, R2 drops to startum 16 and the client SW1 also drops to 16. R2 is configured with the clock calendar-valid command - shouldn't this make R2 an authoritative time soure (when ntp servers are unavailable) and allow R2 to serve time out to clients?

Thanks
Andy
