Cluster ASA ARP Refresh for floating IP of IBM SVC

Syed Yasir Imam

Level 1

SVC node 1 has IP: MGMTIP

SVC node 1 has MAC: MAC1

SVC node 2 (passive) has IP: MGMTIP

SVC node 2 (passive) has MAC: MAC2

MGMTIP is of MGMTVLAN

When node 1 goes faulty, MGMTIP floats to SVC node 2 (making node 2 active for management). It requires change of MAC address against MGMTIP. Other servers in MGMTVLAN can reach MGMTIP on node 2 MAC2. But ASA ARP entry still shows MAC1 for MGMTIP. When arp is cleared manually of MGMTIP, ASA immediately learns the new MAC2 and MGMTIP (on node 2) becomes reachable in the network. Manually ARP refresh is not practical. Need your support. Similar problem is noticed in FWSM as well.

Below is some output from ASA-5585-X:

arp timeout 14400

no sysopt noproxyarp INTERFACEMGMTVLAN

ASA is running 9.2.2.4. IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller (SVC) v6.3.0.
