I face this problem when trying to login on config mode at Cisco Catalyst 4510R+E Switch :

CORE>en
Password:
CORE#conf t
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
CORE(config)#
Config mode locked out until standby initializes
or is recovered from recovery mode if it is a virtual switch
Command execution is locked, Please try later.

The only thing that might help you is find a way to get console port output via a serial cable. Try to leave it powered off for 20-30 minutes and then give it a go again with the serial cable.

If the SUP does't show anything you might try to change serial speed, it should be 9600 but it could have been changed to something else(actually you should be able to check this from the config (line console 0))

If you don't get anything in anyway you can try to creare a virtual session to module 5:

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/12-2/31sga/configuration/guide/config/cli.html

Check out for "Virtual Console", make sure that you understand what you are doing with these commands as they need to be run on the active supervisor.

Last chance will be to open a TAC case

Hello Magdy Fekry,

This error message is usually seen when standby sup is trying to reach RPR or SSO redundancy. It prevents config changes until standby sup is done syncing with active sup.

Is the standby sup trying to sync with active sup? You can check with "show redundancy" output.

So if the chassis has dual supervisor cards, then it's not going to impact anything.
But it is still wise to have a valid change window.

Hello,

Are SUPS in slot 5 and 6 of the same type? Try to put a console cable on Module 5 and disconnect/connect it to see what it says during boot phase.

Thanks,

ADP

Hello dear ADP89 ,
when trying to connect console with module 5 nothing appear on screen !

Supervisor might be dead then, have you looked at the led status?

Cheers,

ADP

Led status isn't stable up/down !
Thanks,
Magdy

Check table 2 and table 3 here:

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst4500/hardware/configuration/notes/OL_29676.html

You probably can determine what's going on with the SUP.

Thanks,

ADP

OK ..
ADP, thanks for your time

You are more than welcome, remeber to mark this post as solved if you are happy with the answers and give helpful points to the answers that helped you.

Good luck with the SUP,

ADP

Of course your answers helped me thanks alot ,
but led status is Orange up/down at the table orange mean --> System boot or a diagnostic test is in progress.
any other solution or module must be replaced ?

Thanks,

Hello dear Matt Delony,
this is the output any solution can solve this issue without replacing this modules

Thanks,

Peer (slot: 5) information is not available because it is in 'DISABLED' state

This usually indicates that standby sup is in rommon mode or booting up.

Check if the standby sup is stuck in rommon or attempting to boot. You may need to access console port of slot 5 to check.

When try to access console at module 5 not responding & nothing appear on screen
Thanks,

That line card is dead.
