configure a loopback on a Gigabit Fiber port

on the following device

C3550 Software (C3550-IPSERVICESK9-M), Version 12.2(50)SE, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1

on port gig0/1 which is using a 1000Base-SX adapter. This is for troubleshooting purposes and it does not appear to be a feasible option.  Is there another way to accomplish in the IOS?

The loopback command usually applies to routers.  It is not on option for this switch.
