connecting two networks

Hi folks.

Sorry if this wil be confusing, but ill try to make it as clear as i can.

In my office i have two networks

a.  MPLS (no internet line)  --- router --- asa 5510 (10.59.1.1) --- catalyst 3550 ( 10.59.1.4)

b.  DS3 ------ routers --- asa 5510 -- catalyst 4507 (172.17.20.2)

what i want/tried to do is connect the two catalyst (4507/3550) via cross over cable.

On the 4507 I created vlan 10 and gave it an ip of 10.59.1.2 and set a rule.

Ip route 10.59.1.0 255.255.255.0 vlan 2 and able to ping 10.59.1.2 adresss

interface FastEthernet3/25

switchport access vlan 10

switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q

switchport mode trunk

speed 100

duplex full

!

I can get to 10.59.1.2 but cant get anywhere past that… data notflowing through the trunk,

what i would like to find out, is this fasable  or what i am trying to do is not possible?

Hi,

1. Specify port either as trunk or an access port.

2. On 4507, vlan 2 is created (10.59.1.2/24) then there should not be static route over here for the same subnet. It will already be a connected subnet in Routing Table.

3. Please specify :

a . Where the subnet 10.59.1.0/24 is located [on upper segment or lower segment or both]

b.  What is the configuration of the physical ports on both ends and which vlans are allowed.
