Connecting two sites using Cisco sg500x and sg500 using fiber

I have two sites that have a fiber run between them

im using a sg500x 48p and

sg500 28 p 

they both have a MFEFX1 module 

ive put the mfefx1 in the xg3/s1 expansion port on the sg500x

and on the s500 I've put the module in g27/s3 port.

first question these ports are supposed to do the auto config correct? 

Did I put the mfefx1 I. The right port on both switches? 

Do I have to use stacking or if I set to standalone can the switches communicate?

right now I have no link light.

need some help new to fiber and theses switches.

You mean auto negotiation?

If these are fiber ports (which I think they are) they don't do auto negotiation

as long as the modules fit, it should be right

no you don't have to stack them to work.  They should work individually.

According to the data sheet the MFEFX1 module is 100Mb fiber.

Question:

are you using a Multi-mode fiber to connect these switches together?

Are you connecting these switches together back-to-back or via a patch panel.

Do you have the correct optics (MM SFP) installed?

Thanks for the response. this is my first experience with fiber. I can attach some pictures of the switch and what i'm using which i hope will help. Here is the answer to your questions.

On one side of the fiber patch cable can you cross the strands and than test again?

i'm not on site at the moment but i will be Monday. I know that i matched the colors to the letter on the cable. 

A was gray 

B was cream 

on both sides. 

is this correct?

Ok on you fiber patch, one strand on one side needs to be tx and on the other side rx

the same for the other strand.  They basically need to be crossed.

I'm heading onsite today i'll look at it and cross the connectors and see what i come up with.

does it look like i have the patch cable in the right port on the switch?

I got Cisco on the phone yesterday and i think it may be a compatibility issue or hardware failure. I was able to connect another 8 port cisco switch using the same transceiver and the connection is up. I'll post back on whether it was hardware or just compatibility.
