When VTP is used, we can backup/restore the VLAN.dat database on a switch.
I have to transfer the VLAN config between 2 VTP servers (VTPS1 on LAN1 and VTPS2 on LAN2), LAN1 and LAN2 are not Layer 2 interconnected
Q1) Can i backup and restore the VLAN.dat between different switchs + IOS versions ?
Here are the 2 contexts where i have to do do the transfer :
- 6509E Sup720 / IOS V12.2.33SXI -> 6807XL Sup 2T 15.2-1.SY3
- 450OE / IOS 122-54.SG -> 4500X / IOS 152-2.E4.bin
The other solution should be to connect VTPS2 directly to VTPS1.
VTPS2 will get the VLAN config from VTPS1 (highest version number).
But LAN1 is a production LAN, so i would like to take no risk (transition behavior on the LAN1).
Q2) Have you already done such connection without impact?
