CVR-QSFP-SFP10G in Nexus 6001

Hi all,

I have a cisco Nexus 6001 Chassis ("Nexus 64 Supervisor"). We have a requirement to connect a SFP-10G-ZR-TX transceiver. This transceiver is not supported in the 10G interfaces due to the power requirements of the SFP-10G-ZR-TX.

We have been advised to purchase the CVR-QSFP-SFP10G and use one of the spare 40G interfaces, which support the power requirements.

Ports Ethernet2/1 and 2/2 are used for VPC connections, which leaves is with Ethernet 2/3 and 2/4 as the spare 40G interfaces.

The problem i have, is that it appears that the QSFP requires a breakout to a range of ports due to the ASIC design. That is, it appears I cannot configure just the one port (2/3 or 2/4) for the 10G transceiver, but all the 40G interfaces (2/1-4). If I do this I'll break my VPC connections.

Have i got this right or have I missed something? Is there any way around this? I just need to ask...

Hi,

Yes, you are correct. Because all 4 ports are part of the same group, you would have to convert them all to 10Gig.  One option would be to change the VPC links between the 2 switches to 10Gig as well which should also work fine.

Thanks Reza.

Because requirements and procedures for initial configurations and software upgrades tend to change, you should always refer to the switch or router software release notes for the latest information. Before installing, configuring, or upgrading a switch, refer to the product release notes on Cisco.com for the latest information. This compatibility matrix does not replace or supersede the release notes. This publication lists the Cisco platforms and the minimum required software versions to support 40-Gigabit Ethernet transceiver modules.
