Dead ports and ports flapping

I will try to explain as best as I can. I work in a large manufacturing facility. We have about 40 switches throughout the factory and everything is connected with fiber and goes back into a layer 3 switch in our server room, then to a firewall and router which we do not have access too.. (we are working on that, the main facility thinks they should control everything). Anyway our issue has been ports constantly going up and down. Some go up and down as much as 10 times in 2 minutes. It seems very random. Everything is on auto negotiate on both ends.

Today we had a block of ports die completely 09-16 on a 2960s. The switches are pretty old and in very hot and dirty conditions. I have tried shutting the ports down and back up with my laptop plugged in and nothing. Two ports are solid amber with nothing plugged in, one is solid green, and the others have no lights.

I am just wondering if maybe the switches age and conditions the ports are finally dieing on us or if there may be a possible solution. Last week one port was flapping continuously. We switched it to another port on another switch and it stopped so it is not what is at the other end causing it. Any ideas would be very helpful and I can post any show commands you need to see. Thanks

Hello

The above sounds like hardware related.

As for the other ports, What configuration is applied to these ports? - Do you have any port security or and storm control features applied and are these all designated a STP edge ports, (spanning-portfast)

Do you have any high CPU/Memory utilization and does the logging suggest anything?

If applicable can you post the config of one of the effected switches and possibly the interface statistics, logging buffer and cpu/memory stats.

There are no err-disable ports either. Switch has been reloaded twice and showing no errors in the post.
