Anyone seen a autonegotiation problem between a Dell 600 laptop and a Cat 4506 with 4548 cards . Port will not come up as auto/auto for speed and duplex but if you hardcode speed/duplex to 100/full it will come up . Suspecting a incompatability between the Dell and the Gig port for some reason , they were recently migrated off a older Cat 5500 with 10/100 ports and did not have a problem. Did not see any bugs on CCO , switches are running either 12.2.24 EWA4 or 12.2.2.37 SG . Suspect that using speed 10 100 auto would fix it but that is not really an option because we never know where these would plug and it defeats the purpose of having gig ports on the switch. any ideas....

You didn't mention if you checked the duplex/speed settings on the NIC card on the Dell c600 itself.

Yes with both sides set to auto their is no link . The laptop nic was set as auto for speed and duplex and is a 10/100/1000 nic , the switch was also set as auto for speed and duplex. If you hardcode the both the pc and switchport to 100/full the link comes up. I'm thinking faulty patch or internal wiring where all 4 pairs are not working right.
