I have sup720s in my network and I want to determin top talkers on the network, can this be done by RMON on the switch and/or sup engine? If so does anyone have a configuration example?

Thanks.

Hi Nawas,

If you are using Radius then there is a software available that will give you customized reports of max talkers plus many other reports.

You can download its trial ver from

Hi

Unfortunately we are not using Radius, any other options?

Thanks.

running 12.2.18 SXD7A on our sup720s and it doesn't support ip flow top-talkers like routers do. you can use an nms like nmis to run these reports though

If the switch is running CatOS image you can use the 'show top' command to view the top talkers on the network.

We support a feature called 'top-n reports' on the 6500 now, which allows you to collect statistics on your interfaces, and form a report about which interfaces are generating the most traffic. Of course, this tell you top interfaces, not top hosts.

If you need top hosts functionality, you have 2 options:

1. Enable Netflow with NDE. You will export your netflow records to some sort of collector which will tell you who the top talkers are.

2. Wait 1 month for 12.2(33)SXH native code to come out for the 6500, which will support the netflow top-talkers feature currently supported on routers.

Here is the link for top-n:

NDE:

http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/lan/cat6000/122sx/swcg/nde.htm

Netflow top talkers documentation will come out when the code is released.

Cool, looks like I am upgrading in a month or so, Thanks

Is there anything like this for CAT OS other than show top? our organization don't plan to move to native yet.

You wont be able to get top-talkers, as 12.2(33)SXH will be native-only code. All you can do is implement netflow on the MSFC and use a collector to pick the top talkers.
