From everything I read it seems like DFC is for forwarding packets.  When I hear packets I think of layer3.  If my 6500s are just being used as a big layer2 only switch do I need a DFC?  I am being told the 6500 looks at the layer 2 frame and the layer 3 patch header information before forwarding the frame.  How true is this?  thanks

It could be layer-2 or layer-3 forwarding.  Also some line cards do have the DFC build in and some older cards don't
