Hi,
I am curious to know how is the dhcp server in cisco router chooses which ip to offer to the client from the pool, ie, an ip pool has ip fron 10.160.22.20 to 200, is the router choose randomly or is it start low and work its way to the top, whats the algorithm behind it?
Thanks

Hi Zhao,
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP ) is used for randomly assigning Internet Protocol (IP) addresses to computers.

thanks for your reply, that's what i thought, but we have a cisco 1841 configured with dhcp, pool address from .20-.254, have been working well for the last few year, all of the sudden, it offering high end (ie.200+) ip to client, there are ip available in the lower end. it makes me wonder why
