Double sided VPC between 5K's

Hi,

we are planning to implement Double sided VPC between 5k's. The upstream has 5672UP's and the downstream has 5548UP's. We got storage, EMC DD and other servers requiring 10G connectivity has been connected to 5548's. Instead of moving these connections to 5672, we have decided to establish double sided vpc between the 5672's and 5548's to make the job easier. 5672's will in turn have routing established with core.

1. Is double sided vpc supported between 5k's at aggregation and access layer?

2. Does the vpc number (connecting 5672 and 5548) should be same on both ends?

3. Will there be any comparability issues in terms of modules etc? believe this is applicable to 7k's and above. correct me if i am wrong here.

4. what other precautions need to take for double sided VPC?

Thanks,

Sridhar

Hi

Yes this is supported.
The vpc number and port-channel number could be different or the same. It doesn't matter.
The important thing is the vpc domain that must be different in both nexus pair. Based on your sketch, you already make sure of that.
Then stp on the upstream pair must have a higher priority.
You need to make sure peer-switch is configured on your vpc domain.

Except that there's nothing more to be careful of. Each pair won't know the pair is attached to is a vpc. For each pair, they'll thing they're connected to a single switch.

There isn't any compatibility module issue.

Thanks

Thx Francesco for the response. peer-switch is already configured on 5672 where the HSRP is expected for VLAN's. hope 5548's doesn't need this command. any other commands/features need to be enabled?

I would activate peer-switch on down nexus pair to ensure to have 1 virtual bridge id for stp

Thanks
Francesco
