Hello
I am new at industrial networks and have a doubt. Do Cisco switches (ex: C3850) have to support CIP or PROFINET in such network so that all of industrial devices can communicate to each other?
Thank you
Marcos

Hi Marcos,
My logic says it should work, because the industrial switches will encapsulate the information into the layer 2 frameand pass it through the normal switches up to reach the destination, so you need to create the same VLANs on the switches through the paths. You could test it with other switch models before to see the behavior.
Other way and suggested is open a case with the Cisco TAC in order to get an accurate answer.

Hi Marcos
I think the 3850 does not support CIP/PROFINET just IE3000 ethernet switches.
https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/switches/industrial-ethernet-3000-series-switches/index.html
Also check:
http://cfn.cloudapps.cisco.com/ITDIT/CFN/jsp/by-feature-technology.jsp and type CIP/PROFINET to get the devices.
I think the Cisco 3850 will forward the layer 2 frame from the source to the destination but it cannot support CIP or Profinet by itself.
