Is it possble to use TCP/IP, (we are lookong to eliminate our SNA lines) with 3270 type terminals and printers, utilizing SNAsw. If so, what hardware and/or software would be required, to commincate with our backend SNA 3278 terminals and IBM model 6400 printers. We are currently running Z/OS 1.7 on a IBM Z890 2086 360 A04 processor.

How are you currently talking to the 3278's and other sna equipment ? If they are 3278's you are still going to need a 3174 or soemthing to talk to them and maybe hook those up to a router and run dlsw back to the mainframe .
better bet would be to get some sort of ip sna gateway and use that so that you can get rid of the old 3X74 equipment . You are one of the few still using old 3278's . We used to support probably 1000 of those back in the mid 90's .

We are currently using, a SWITCHED MAJNODE FOR TOKEN-RING via a 3174 controller
TYPE=SWNET

You can use the new IP controllers (IBM 2074 or Visara SCON22L). These units are all IP and talk to the mainframe via Escon. On the other end you can use any TN3270 type software emulation package for your users. They will attach to the IP address of the controller and you can get VTAM sessions and Master Consoles... Good Luck..Please rate...
