Etherchannel across two 2950 switches to server

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to have a server with a dual nic card connected to two different 2950 etherchannelled?

Hello Chris,

NOO.. this is not possible.. you gotta run the channels to the same switch / server...

"The EtherChannel should start on a single device and end on a single device. An EtherChannel that starts from a single switch and ends on two different workstations, or starts from two different switches and ends on a single workstations, is not allowed. As an exception, if Cisco Catalyst 3750 Stack is used as an end-point, the EtherChannel can either start or end on different member switches of the same stack."

Hello,

To support etherchannel to two different switches you have to get 3750 Stackable switches. As for 2950 it is not supported. One thing to take into consideration, is the NIC on the server should have etherchannel support.

In some OS they refer "etherchannel" to the "Network Interface Backup" function (dual-home connection). If you just need to provide an Interface Backup (one interface is primary, and if it fails, server switches to second NIC), it's possible. However if you want to bundle links to increase capacity (for example, use two 100 Mbps links together to get 200 MBps), they should be connected to the same switch.

I think 2950 also supports etherchannel.
